Yes there is a good point in modding it because then like the 360 you can download and play free games. You can also then play what ever videos, music, put what ever photos on there and much more like make it into a computer with windows installed with skype and everything.

To find the firmware installed all you have to do is go to the settings, go to system settings, then to system information. In there you will find the firmware version next to system software. Once you have that information for us we can lead you from there.

Pandora Battery And MMS Required For You To Run/Install CFW

Use : http://www.psp-hq.com/postt343.html&sid=e9519c91e2e665f431c67b47c0920b35
To Make The MMS

Convert You Normal Battery To Pandora (Tricky Bit , You Need Custom Firmware To Use The Software To Convert The Battery To Install Custom Firmware).Or Use The Hard Modding Method Or Buy A Tool Battery (Very Cheap

Yes It Is Normal ,Don't Worry Though Because Once You Install CFW You More Than Likely Won't Use The Drive Again.

Games Are Saved To The memory Stick. To Be Honest 1 GB is Good For The MMS And All The Tools You Will Start To Use.

Alot Of The Never Good Games Are Bigger Than 1 GB So You Can See You Need A Bigger Stick . 2 gb Would Do But The Bigger The Better. Go For What You Can Afford (16 GB Fits A Lot Of Games / Music And Videos )

Thanks demonjuggler, the games you do download do get saved to the mem stick and you can get full games that are round 200, 300MB but if thats a problem you can get 4GB and 8GB mem sticks pretty cheap off eBay so you are safe there. so you would be able to put a few games on there already. Once I go home from here cos I aint at home I will be able to help you a bit better in hacking it.

It is also normal for the PSP to make a sound on startup so dont worry there...

Don't By A Brand New One Unless Your Sure

Later PSP Slim Unhackable And PSP3000 Is At Present A No Go.

Stick With The One You Have. Install CFW And Like I Said Buy A Bigger

MS And You Won't Need To Use The UMD Drive Again

I Think It Must Be About 3 Years Since I Used Mine

You Can Back The Games You Own Up When You Are On CFW Very Easily

(Downloading Games However Is Piracy And In No Way Do I Condone This Activity.)

Games Obtained By Whatever Means However Can Be Loaded To The MS And Played On CFW

There Are Lots Of Sites If You Look Around That You Can Obtain "Backups"
Of Games (PSP ISO's)

Get CFW On Your PSP Then If You Need Any Help Just Ask.

You Can Do That PSP No Problem

Tip: When Messing With The Batteries Run Them Flat First

Run The Pandora Software On A PC (Best With XP)

Have The PSP Connected With A MS (Memery Stick)In The PSP And An Active USB Connection To The PC When The Pandora Software Is Run.

Make It Easy And Choose All The Options As They Are Here

http://www.psp-hq.com/postt343.html&sid=ae7ae7b44fea384a883920c67d11ecb6

Press Start And When Finished You Will Have A MMS (Magic Memory Stick) In The PSP

If all Went Well Turn The PSP Off (Power Button Held Up Untill PSP Shuts Off)

Pop Th MMS Out , Put It Back In . Remove The Original Battery ,

Hold The Left Trigger Button In , Now Put The Pandora Battery In
(Keeping The Ltrigger Held In)

The PSP Will Startup And You Will See The MS Reader Light Flashing

The PSP Will Show A Menu Choose Install 4.01 M33

This Will Install CFW (Custom FirmWare)

Hope You Get On Ok

Let Us Know
