Introduction
This tutorial will teach you how to tell what "firmware" version your PSP handheld is running so that you can learn which technique you will need to upgrade your firmware.
Some Basic Info
Sometimes when upgrading to a hacked firmware it is easier to initially downgrade the firmware before upgrading it again to the newer hacked firmware so you can play your homebrew stuff but it really depends on which tools you want to use and what tutorial your willing to risk..

Let's Get Started
Checking the firmware of your PSP is simple for you PSP genius’s but for the newbie’s out there it may be their first challenge.
1. Turn on your "Sony PSP Portable" (PSP)
2. Navigate through the menu to the "Settings" icon which is on the far left of your options.
3. Now Navigate through the menu to find the option "System Information"
4. A Bunch of Letter and numbers will now appear. (e.g. 3.71 M33-2)
5. That's it.. This info is showing what your PSP firmware is currently running. There you have it now all you need to do is hack your PSP!!!
From this information you can determine which will be the easiest way to flash your psp so it can play homebrew emulators, roms and homemade backup games.
